Argox thermal transfer ribbon depends on the series. The X series industrials and the CP-2140 desktop take a 1 inch core, in rolls of up to 360m and 300m. The OS series desktops take a short 92m roll on a ½ inch core with a notch, outside wound. Argox's X series ships set for ink side in, which matters when you order. The table gives the usual size, core and winding from Argox's manuals.

Which Argox thermal transfer ribbon for which label
The label decides the grade, not the printer. Find your label material below, then open the grade for its specification. Wax suits paper labels, wax-resin suits coated paper and light synthetics, and resin suits polyester, polypropylene and other films.

Argox X series: ships set for ink side in, and a 101.6mm width ceiling
Argox's manual for the X-1000VL and X-2000V says the printer takes ribbon wound ink side out or ink side in, but it leaves the factory set for ink side in. To run ink side out ribbon, you move the ribbon adjustment shaft as the manual's switching section describes, and move it back for ink side in ribbon. Before you order, check which way your current roll is wound and which way the printer is set.
The ribbon is 25.4mm to 101.6mm wide on a 1 inch core, with a roll diameter of up to 76mm. Length depends on the grade: up to 360m for wax and up to 300m for semi-resin. Because the ceiling is 101.6mm, a 100mm ribbon is the widest round size for this printer, and a 110mm ribbon is wider than Argox specifies.
CP-2140: two ribbon holders, two winding rules
The CP-2140 takes ribbon from 25.4mm to 110mm wide, up to 300m long, with a roll diameter of up to 67mm on a 1 inch core. The manual's introduction also mentions 360m, but its specification table says 300m, so order by 300m.
The winding rule changes between the two holders. The ribbon supply holder accepts the coated side wound in or out. The pick-up holder, which winds up the used ribbon, accepts the coated side out only. The printer packs two ribbon core adaptors that you fit before loading, so keep them when you change rolls.
OS-214 Plus and OS-2140: 92m on a notched ½ inch core
The OS series is the small desktop family. Argox's manual gives ribbon 1 to 4 inches (25.4mm to 101.6mm) wide, up to 92m long, with a roll diameter of up to 37mm, on a ½ inch core with a notch. The ribbon is outside wound, and the manual lists wax, wax-resin and resin. The core is notched, so ask for a notched ½ inch core.
Argox's website lists the OS-2140 and the OS-214 Plus as discontinued. The OS-2140D version is direct thermal and takes no ribbon. If you still run an OS printer, send us the model and a photo of the old roll.

Does an Argox X-1000VL or X-2000V take inside or outside wound ribbon?+
Either. Argox's manual says the X series takes ribbon wound ink side out or in, but it ships set for ink side in. Ink side out ribbon needs the ribbon adjustment shaft moved to the outside position, as the manual describes.
