About the X-1000VL
The X-1000VL and X-2000V are Argox's Xellent industrial printers. Argox's manual gives ribbon from 1 to 4 inches (25.4mm to 101.6mm) wide, with a roll diameter of up to 76mm on a 1-inch core. Length depends on the ribbon type: up to 360m for wax and up to 300m for semi-resin. The width ceiling is 101.6mm, so a 100mm ribbon is the widest round size, and a 110mm ribbon is wider than the printer is specified for. The manual says the printer takes ribbon wound ink side out or ink side in, but it ships set for ink side in. If your stock is outside wound, the ribbon adjustment shaft has to be moved before you load it, as the manual describes. Wax covers paper labels (CW-11, CW-12), wax-resin covers coated paper (CW-20, CW-22), and resin CW-28 is listed for polyester, polypropylene, polyimide and film.

Ribbon specification
Argox gives 360m for wax ribbon and 300m for semi-resin ribbon. Set for ink-in from the factory; switch to outside for ink-out ribbon.
100mm × 360m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it: you can order a narrower width that is still a few millimetres wider than your label, so less ribbon overhangs and goes to waste.
Load the ribbon the right way round
Argox's manual says the X series ships set for ribbon wound ink side in. To run ink side out, follow the manual's section on switching the ribbon winding: the ribbon adjustment shaft is moved to the outside position, then the ribbon is loaded. Switch it back for ink side in ribbon.

Loading ribbon in a Argox printer
Core sizes: 1 inch on the X-1000VL, X-2000V and CP-2140; ½ inch, notched, on the OS-214 Plus and OS-2140. Winding: the X series takes either and ships set for ink side in; the CP-2140 supply holder takes either but its pick-up holder takes ink side out only; the OS series takes outside wound ribbon. Argox lists the OS-2140 and OS-214 Plus as discontinued. Ask us to confirm your model.

What ribbon size does the Argox X-1000VL / X-2000V use?+
100mm × 360m on a 1" core, inside or outside wound. At 360m a roll covers roughly 3,600 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.
Is the X-1000VL inside or outside wound?+
It accepts both inside- and outside-wound ribbon. Tell us which your current rolls are and we will match them.
Which ribbon grade should I use in a X-1000VL?+
Grade follows the label, not the printer. Industrial units like the X-1000VL usually run mixed media, so most sites keep a wax for paper and a wax-resin or resin for synthetics rather than compromising on one grade for both.
