About the CL-S621
The CL-S621 is Citizen's desktop printer at 203dpi, and the CL-S631 is the 300dpi version in the same manual. The datasheet gives a 104mm print width for the CL-S621. Citizen's manual gives ribbon from 25.4mm to 114mm wide, up to 360m long, with a roll diameter of up to 74mm on a 1-inch core. That is longer than the 300m roll of the CL-E321, and the datasheet lists the same ARCP automatic tension adjustment as the CL-S700. The ribbon winding is chosen by switch or menu: the manual has a section on selecting the ribbon winding direction, with one procedure for ink side out ribbon and one for ink side in. Citizen lists it as switch selectable where the CL-S700 senses it automatically, so set it to match the roll you load. Wax covers paper labels (CW-11, CW-12). Polyester and polypropylene labels need wax-resin or resin.

Ribbon specification
Winding is chosen in the printer's menu. Citizen gives a ribbon width up to 114mm.
110mm × 360m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it: you can order a narrower width that is still a few millimetres wider than your label, so less ribbon overhangs and goes to waste.

The printer does not decide the grade — the label material and the conditions it has to survive do.

All the Citizen models here use a 1 inch core (25.4mm). Winding: the CL-S700 takes inside or outside wound ribbon and senses it automatically; the CL-S621 and CL-S631 take either, selected by switch or menu; the CL-E321 and CL-E331 take outside wound ribbon only, with the ink on the outer side. What ribbon size does the Citizen CL-S621 / CL-S631 use?+
110mm × 360m on a 1" core, inside or outside wound. At 360m a roll covers roughly 3,600 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.
Is the CL-S621 inside or outside wound?+
It accepts both inside- and outside-wound ribbon. Tell us which your current rolls are and we will match them.
Which ribbon grade should I use in a CL-S621?+
Grade follows the label, not the printer. Desktop units like the CL-S621 are most often paired with paper stock, where wax (CW-11 or CW-12) is the right grade. Move to wax-resin only if the label is coated or synthetic.
