About the CL-S700
The CL-S700 is Citizen's industrial 4-inch printer, at 203dpi with a 104mm print width. Citizen's manual gives ribbon from 25.4mm to 114mm wide and up to 450m long, with a roll diameter of up to 86.5mm on a 1-inch core (25.4mm, plus or minus 0.25mm). It takes ribbon wound inside or outside, and the datasheet says it senses the winding automatically, so there is no setting to change when you switch between the two. Citizen's ARCP system adjusts ribbon tension automatically from the start of the roll to the end, which the manual ties to fewer ribbon wrinkles. The 450m roll is longer than the 360m of the CL-S621 and the 300m of the CL-E321. Wax covers paper labels (CW-11, CW-12), wax-resin covers coated paper (CW-20, CW-22), and resin CW-28 is listed for polyester, polypropylene, polyimide and film.

Ribbon specification
Citizen gives a ribbon width up to 114mm.
110mm × 450m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it: you can order a narrower width that is still a few millimetres wider than your label, so less ribbon overhangs and goes to waste.

The printer does not decide the grade — the label material and the conditions it has to survive do.

All the Citizen models here use a 1 inch core (25.4mm). Winding: the CL-S700 takes inside or outside wound ribbon and senses it automatically; the CL-S621 and CL-S631 take either, selected by switch or menu; the CL-E321 and CL-E331 take outside wound ribbon only, with the ink on the outer side. What ribbon size does the Citizen CL-S700 use?+
110mm × 450m on a 1" core, inside or outside wound. At 450m a roll covers roughly 4,500 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.
Is the CL-S700 inside or outside wound?+
It accepts both inside- and outside-wound ribbon. Tell us which your current rolls are and we will match them.
Which ribbon grade should I use in a CL-S700?+
Grade follows the label, not the printer. Industrial units like the CL-S700 usually run mixed media, so most sites keep a wax for paper and a wax-resin or resin for synthetics rather than compromising on one grade for both.
