Sato CL6NX Plus ribbon — size, core and grade

The Sato CL6NX Plus takes 160mm × 600m ribbon on a 1" core, inside or outside wound.

Codewell Image manufactures that ribbon in Badli, New Delhi — wax, wax-resin and resin grades, slit to your label width, with a free sample before you order.

About the CL6NX Plus

The CL6NX Plus is Sato's wide industrial printer, at 203 or 305dpi with a print width of about 168mm (167.5mm in Sato Europe's documents). Sato lists ribbon from 59mm to 177mm wide. We slit to 160mm, so up to that width we can cut to your label; beyond it, a wider ribbon than ours is needed. Rolls reach 600m, with a roll diameter of up to 90mm, on a 1-inch core, which keeps changeovers down. Sato's datasheet gives the winding as face-in or face-out with no setting change required and shows no optional part, so we cut inside or outside wound to match your stock. Sato's manual describes the take-up as coreless, so the 1-inch core you buy is the supply roll only. Polyester, polypropylene, polyimide and film labels suit resin (CW-28). Coated paper suits wax-resin, and CW-20 and CW-22 are both listed for coated paper and polyester. Plain paper needs only wax (CW-11, CW-12).

160mm × 600m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it: you can order a narrower width that is still a few millimetres wider than your label, so less ribbon overhangs and goes to waste.

Which grade for a CL6NX Plus

The printer does not decide the grade — the label material and the conditions it has to survive do.

Unsure? The ribbon selector narrows it in two questions, or see the full size chart listing the printer models we have checked.

Loading ribbon in a Sato printer

Winding direction varies by Sato model. The CL4NX Plus, CL6NX Plus and WS4 take inside- or outside-wound ribbon with no setting change; the CT4-LX and CG4 take outside-wound only; the older CL408e, CL412e and M84Pro take inside-wound only. Always give us your Sato model when ordering. CW-series ribbons are available in both inside wound and outside wound configurations.

Sato CL6NX Plus ribbon — common questions

What ribbon size does the Sato CL6NX Plus use?+

160mm × 600m on a 1" core, inside or outside wound. At 600m a roll covers roughly 6,000 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.

Is the CL6NX Plus inside or outside wound?+

It accepts both inside- and outside-wound ribbon. Tell us which your current rolls are and we will match them.

Which ribbon grade should I use in a CL6NX Plus?+

Grade follows the label, not the printer. Industrial units like the CL6NX Plus usually run mixed media, so most sites keep a wax for paper and a wax-resin or resin for synthetics rather than compromising on one grade for both.

Can I get a free sample for my CL6NX Plus?+

Yes. We manufacture in Badli, New Delhi and send samples so you can print on your own CL6NX Plus with your own label stock before ordering volume. Wash-care and resin grades in particular are worth testing rather than taking on spec.

Need a size the CL6NX Plus does not take as standard? We slit 25mm – 160mm.
