Sato WS408TT / WS412TT ribbon — size, core and grade

The Sato WS408TT / WS412TT takes 110mm × 300m ribbon on a 1" core, inside or outside wound.

Codewell Image manufactures that ribbon in Badli, New Delhi — wax, wax-resin and resin grades, slit to your label width, with a free sample before you order.

About the WS408TT

The WS408TT prints at 203dpi and the WS412TT at 300dpi, both with a 104mm print area, and Sato's operator manual lists the same ribbon for both. The long roll is 300m on a 1-inch core. The short roll is 100m on a ½-inch core. Ribbon width runs from 40mm to 110mm, within our 25–160mm slitting range, and 40mm is the narrowest width Sato lists. Sato's manual says the supply roll can be coated side in or coated side out, so tell us which your stock is and we cut that. Its loading steps align the notches on the left side of each roll with its hub, so order a notched core. Print speed differs: the WS408TT runs at up to 6 inches a second and the WS412TT at up to 4. Paper labels run on wax (CW-11 uncoated, CW-12 semi-gloss or coated). Polypropylene labels move to wax-resin CW-22, CW-25 or CW-30, or resin CW-28.

110mm × 300m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it — if your label is 60mm, order a ribbon a few millimetres wider rather than paying for 110mm and wasting the overhang.

Load the ribbon the right way round

Sato's manual says the ribbon on the supply hub can be wound coated side in or coated side out, but the take-up hub must wind coated side out. Align the notches on the left side of the roll with the hole in the supply wheel, then turn the take-up wheel to straighten the ribbon and reduce wrinkles.

Which grade for a WS408TT

The printer does not decide the grade — the label material and the conditions it has to survive do.

Unsure? The ribbon selector narrows it in two questions, or see the full size chart covering every major printer.

Loading ribbon in a Sato printer

Winding direction varies by Sato model. The CL4NX Plus, CL6NX Plus and WS4 take inside- or outside-wound ribbon with no setting change; the CT4-LX and CG4 take outside-wound only; the older CL408e, CL412e and M84Pro take inside-wound only. Always give us your Sato model when ordering. CW-series ribbons are available in both inside wound and outside wound configurations.

Sato WS408TT / WS412TT ribbon — common questions

What ribbon size does the Sato WS408TT / WS412TT use?+

110mm × 300m on a 1" core, inside or outside wound. At 300m a roll covers roughly 3,000 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.

Is the WS408TT inside or outside wound?+

It accepts both inside- and outside-wound ribbon. Tell us which your current rolls are and we will match them.

Which ribbon grade should I use in a WS408TT?+

Grade follows the label, not the printer. Desktop units like the WS408TT are most often paired with paper stock, where wax (CW-11 or CW-12) is the right grade. Move to wax-resin only if the label is coated or synthetic.

Can I get a free sample for my WS408TT?+

Yes. We manufacture in Badli, New Delhi and send samples so you can print on your own WS408TT with your own label stock before ordering volume. Wash-care and resin grades in particular are worth testing rather than taking on spec.

Need a size the WS408TT does not take as standard? We slit 25mm – 160mm.
