Zebra ZT610 ribbon — size, core and grade
The Zebra ZT610 takes 110mm × 450m ribbon on a 1" core, outside wound (ink side out).

About the ZT610
The ZT610 is the 4-inch printer in Zebra's ZT600 series, at 203, 300 or 600dpi with a 104mm print width at all three. Zebra lists ribbon from 20mm to 110mm wide, where the 6-inch ZT620 starts at 51mm. Our narrowest slit is 25mm, so a ribbon of 20 to 24mm is not a size we cut; every width from 25mm to 110mm is. The roll runs to 450m, with a roll diameter of up to 81.3mm, on a 1-inch core. The 600dpi option is the reason to test before you commit to a grade: send us the label stock and the dpi you run and ask for a free sample. Paper labels run on wax (CW-11, CW-12), coated paper that needs more takes wax-resin (CW-22), and polyester or polypropylene takes resin (CW-28). The ZT620 has its own page.

Ribbon specification
Inside-wound ribbon fits only with Zebra's optional ribbon spindle.
110mm × 450m is the standard size for this model. Because we slit in-house you are not restricted to it: you can order a narrower width that is still a few millimetres wider than your label, so less ribbon overhangs and goes to waste.
Load the ribbon the right way round
Zebra's ZT600 guide says to use ribbon wider than the media, and to remove used ribbon from the take-up spindle each time you change the ribbon roll. With ribbon half the width of the printhead or narrower, it asks you to remove the used ribbon at every new roll of media as well, so uneven pressure on the spindle does not interfere with the ribbon release bars. To remove it, hold the take-up spindle and turn the ribbon release knob to the left until it stops.

Loading ribbon in a Zebra printer
Core sizes: ½ inch and 1 inch. Winding: Zebra desktops (GK, GX, GC) take outside-wound ribbon only. For the ZD series, Zebra's guides do not state the ink side, so we confirm the winding against your roll before dispatch. The ZT230, ZT231 and 105SL Plus are outside only; the ZT410, ZT420, ZT610 and ZT620 take outside wound as standard, and inside wound only with Zebra's optional spindle. Specify your model when ordering for confirmed compatibility.

What ribbon size does the Zebra ZT610 use?+
110mm × 450m on a 1" core, outside wound (ink side out). At 450m a roll covers roughly 4,500 labels at 100mm pitch. We slit 25mm – 160mm, so a non-standard width for your label is not a problem.
Is the ZT610 inside or outside wound?+
Outside wound — the ink side faces out. Load an inside-wound roll instead and the ink faces away from the label, so the label comes out blank; that reads as a printer fault but is a winding problem. Inside-wound ribbon fits only with Zebra's optional ribbon spindle.
Which ribbon grade should I use in a ZT610?+
Grade follows the label, not the printer. Industrial units like the ZT610 usually run mixed media, so most sites keep a wax for paper and a wax-resin or resin for synthetics rather than compromising on one grade for both.
